This is a square ken-sui (water container for tea ceremony), also usable as a hi-ire (brazier) or hana-ike (flower vase), by the prestigious Bizen ware kiln, Tōko Konishi.
Tōko Konishi is a historic Bizen ware kiln that has been in operation since the early Meiji period, and is globally renowned for the beauty of its sankiri (ash-glazed) patterns and its exquisitely crafted works.
This piece features a particularly beautiful and vibrant sankiri, which is synonymous with Tōko's works. The unique bluish hues created by being buried in ash, contrasted with the reddish-brown of the fired clay, are powerful, creating a captivating scene from any angle.
