This sanshin (Okinawan three-stringed instrument) is made with polyethylene terephthalate, a type of plastic, used in the body, making it resistant to heat and rain that traditional genuine or synthetic leather sanshin cannot withstand. (Produced by Urumaya, a sanshin shop in Okinawa.)
The skin is stretched onto the body under strong pressure, resulting in a sustained and clear, high-pitched tone. This surface can also be customized with photos or illustrations.
