This album was produced concurrently with Astor Piazzolla's masterpiece Tango Zero Hour. Piazzolla's influence permeates jazz, rumba, bolero, and second line, while Piazzolla himself becomes deeply immersed in jazz. Duke Ellington's famous songs are enveloped by Charlie Haden's sound and Carmen Lundy's a cappella. Fernando Saunders' falsetto and David Murray's saxophone, reminiscent of The Last Tango, capture a season that dramatically shifted the landscape of American clave, connecting New York, Lisbon, and Buenos Aires.
