The Helicopter String Quartet (Helikopter-Streichquartett) is a string quartet composed by the German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. It was composed in 1993 as the third scene of Wednesday from his monumental opera Light.
Each musician boards a helicopter and performs inside it. These helicopters circle around a concert hall (or similar venue), with each musician performing within their respective helicopter. The sound and visuals are then broadcast into the concert hall.
